Kimono fabric – ecru tanmono Asanoha motifs. This Japanese Tanmono fabric (反物) is intended for kimono making. It features an elegant ecru jacquard base with traditional Asanoha geometric patterns throughout. Decorative fans with classic Japanese figures, including one resembling Lady Murasaki, add a refined touch. The fabric measures approximately 30–35 cm wide and 11 meters long, and has been unrolled for easier shipping. Never used, it is in overall good condition. Please note: some storage marks are visible. Being a vintage/second-hand piece, it may show some stains or imperfections.
Kimono fabric rolls, called Tanmono (反物), are specially designed to create custom-made kimonos. A typical Tanmono measures between 11 and 13 meters in length and about 36 cm in width, providing enough fabric for a complete kimono. However, for Furisode (振袖) kimonos, which are characterized by their elegant long sleeves and formal use, it is common to use longer rolls, up to 16.5 meters, to ensure that every part of the garment is perfectly crafted.
The Yuzen Eba Tanmono (友禅絵羽), in particular, features hand-painted or hand-dyed patterns that align perfectly during sewing, creating a harmonious design. This type of roll often consists of several pre-cut pieces, connected by threads to facilitate the final assembly, ensuring a perfect fit and elegant finish.
For Furisode, additional pieces of plain fabric, around 4 meters, can also be included for linings or contrasting elements, adding even more refinement to the final garment.
