Here are some answers to questions you may have about this product category and our shop.
What fabrics pair well with asanoha?
Asanoha’s strict geometric rhythm benefits from being placed next to fabrics with a different visual energy. The most traditional pairing is asanoha with seigaiha (wave pattern): the sharp, angular lines of the hemp leaf contrast against the gentle curves of the waves, creating the layered effect that’s characteristic of Japanese patchwork.
A coordinated plain Japanese cotton works well for borders, linings or binding strips where the eye needs to rest between patterned sections. For bolder projects, try asanoha next to a Japanese floral print: rigid geometry against organic shapes is a combination that works surprisingly well, as long as you keep two or three shared tones across your palette. Browse all our Japanese geometric pattern fabrics for more pairing ideas.
What are these asanoha fabrics made of?
All the asanoha fabrics in this collection are 100% Japanese cotton, printed in Japan. They have a soft, medium-weight hand suitable for accessories, home décor and lightweight garments. The fabric width is approximately 110 cm (43 in) and each piece is sold by 50cm (19 in).
Which asanoha fabric works best for a first project?
The classic ecru-on-coloured-background prints are a safe starting point. Asanoha aligns naturally across seams, so you can focus on your sewing rather than on pattern matching. Furoshiki, knot bags, tote bags and cushion covers are all good beginner projects with this pattern.
Is asanoha good for patchwork and quilting?
Very much so. The symmetrical all-over repeat means you can cut pieces in any orientation without wasting fabric, and the pattern lines up across seams on its own. It pairs especially well with seigaiha, plain fabrics, or other traditional motifs from our Japanese patchwork collection.
How should I wash asanoha cotton fabric?
Machine wash at 30°C on a gentle cycle with similar colours. Our Japanese cottons are high-quality prints that generally don’t bleed or shrink, but using a colour catcher for the first wash is still a sensible precaution, especially with darker or indigo-dyed versions. Iron on the reverse at medium heat. Pre-washing before cutting is always a good habit with natural fibres.
Can I use the pink asanoha for Demon Slayer cosplay?
Yes, our manga-style pink asanoha fabric is regularly chosen for Nezuko Kamado costumes. For the full story behind the pattern and its connection to Demon Slayer, see our complete asanoha pattern guide.
